Shamrock & Associates was founded in 2013 with a simple goal: We bring CFO-level services and support to businesses that aren’t large enough to have a full-time CFO on payroll.
Yes, Shamrock can help with your books. Shamrock can prepare your taxes and provide general CPA services. Shamrock can offer practical planning advice. But those things are a means to an end – and in the end, what we’re interested in most is your continued success. Shamrock is more than a CPA firm, we bring your business the expertise your business needs.
Steve Shamrock is a CPA and financial strategist based in Naperville, Illinois. He left a career as a senior-level financial executive – serving as controller or VP of Finance for both large and small companies – to found his own firm in 2013.
Steve is a former database programmer, so he has specialized knowledge in the intersection of accounting practice with technology. He is also the author of a 2012 book called “IFRS and US GAAP: A Comprehensive Comparison.” (Don’t be fooled by the action-packed title; it’s actually a book that helps US-based accountants quickly understand international accounting standards.)
Steve holds an MBA from DePaul University and a Master’s in Taxation from the University of Cincinnati. Before founding Shamrock Accounting, Consulting and Tax, Inc., he worked for almost 25 years in financial leadership with companies as diverse as BP, Energizer, AkzoNobel, LanzaTech and Atlantic Power Corporation.
Like many business owners, Steve’s greatest challenge – and his richest reward – is in balancing the tension between the work that makes him profitable and the work that best feeds his passion. Even for an accountant, work is about more than money. It’s a chance to change the world, one business owner at a time.
